He was of African descent, though it appears that he was mixed race. The reports of that time do not mention that he was a black man, so it appears that he had some acceptance in Boston!
Crispus Attucks may have struck one of the British soldiers before he was shot. We can't really accuse him of starting the Boston Massacre, though, because many colonists were harassing the British soldiers.
